Mission & History

Heartfelt's mission is to provide a circle of support and hope as we celebrate and remember the lives of our children. We accomplish this through Heartfelt Connections, our support group, and the Heartfelt Children’s Memorial.

Heartfelt Connections was founded in 2002 by Deb and Steve Schaefer and Diane and Clark Krieser, with the assistance of Father Brad Zitek. They recognized the lack of support within the Seward community for parents who had lost a child and bravely set forth in memory of their daughters, Leslie Schaefer and Corina Krieser. The first Heartfelt Connections support group meeting was held in March of 2002 and continues to this day.

The Heartfelt Children’s Memorial was a dream of three mothers who had a passion to create a place in Seward to remember and honor children who left this earth too soon. Humble beginnings gave way to greater opportunities and today the memorial sits at the corner of Hillcrest and Columbia on the campus of Concordia University. Dedicated the spring of 2015, the memorial walls now honor and remember children from across Nebraska, as well as other states and countries.
